The New Touareg’s elegant design lines trace an aggressive stance achieved by a lower body and wider wheelbase, accentuated by Volkswagen’s distinctive design DNA. From dramatic halogen headlights to chrome twin tailpipes, the vehicle has an adventurous spirit and is the most technologically innovative Volkswagen yet.

Luxury comes standard in the New Touareg. The 4-zone Climatronic air-conditioning allows for four different temperature zones, making sure everyone travels in comfort (2-zone in V6 models). A Climate Control feature in the front seats regulates the ventilation on the surface, backrests and sides of the seats. Other standard luxury features include a 7-inch colour LCD display in the instrument cluster, a radio with 6-disc CD changer, double sun visors and automatic cruise control.

The modular rear-seating concept features a 40:20:40 asymmetrically split backrest. The rear seats can be adjusted forwards and backwards over a range of 160mm and offer 3-stage reclining positions.

A revolutionary 1.4m? panoramic sunroof has a 300 percent larger glass surface than classic sliding/tilting options. It includes a flexible net wind deflector and employs a front anchoring plate system to reduce wind noise when closed.

Innovations

Area View technology is an optional feature that uses four cameras to produce a high-quality 360° view around the vehicle, allowing the driver to see areas outside the vehicle that may otherwise be hidden from view.

Lane Assist is an optional feature that dynamically detects lane markings and causes the steering-wheel to vibrate to warn the driver if the vehicle inadvertently leaves its lane. Side Assist utilises radar sensors to recognise when another vehicle is in the driver’s blind spot or approaching rapidly from the rear. Light displays, integrated into the exterior mirrors, flash to alert the driver. Optional across the range.

Optional Bi-Xenon headlights, with cornering lights and LED daytime running lights, let the driver know what’s around the corner before taking it. Standard on the 4.2 V8 TDI.

The top-of-the-range 4.2 V8 TDI Touareg balances its mammoth 250kW power output and breathtaking maximum torque of 800Nm with a combined fuel consumption of just 9.1 litres per 100km. With a top speed of 242km/h and an acceleration time of just 5.8 seconds (0-100km/h) the flagship New Touareg is the ultimate expression of premium power.

Off-road, a host of technological innovations have ensured the New Touareg’s pedigree as the consummate performer. Permanent 4Motion® all-wheel drive and 8-speed Tiptronic® Torsen gearbox work seamlessly with the Hill Descent Control. The Terrain Tech Package (available on the 3.0 V6 TDI model) offers a permanent 4XMotion® all-wheel drive system with low range and centre and rear differential locks that ensure driving power is distributed to the wheels as required.
