Design
The New Beetle transcends the metal it's made from. Every piece is rounded, every surface, smooth. Every functional part from bumpers to spoilers, to mirror housings, to door handles is colour-coded, blended, integrated. The headlights and the tail-light are set directly in the body. Nothing breaks the sculptured flow.
The New Beetle now also boasts more pronounced wheel arches that frame new, sporty alloy wheels. A seamless integration of fog lights and front bumper create even more synchronicity, whilst the fresh burst of new exterior colours to choose from will make deciding which New Beetle to drive away in, far from a black and white decision.
As you invite in the heavens into the New Beetle Cabriolet, design doesn't detract from the original form. And this flowing sweep of perfection is mirrored in the interior design of the car: a sweptback dashboard area disappears over your driving horizon toward the tinted windscreen. It's a living, moving icon.
Believe it or not, the inside of the New Beetle is as spectacular as the outside. Flowing, rounded sweeps extend to every detail: a swept back dashboard area disappears over your driving horizon towards the tinted windscreen. A large round dial integrates and displays speed, revs, and temperature and fuel gauges, illuminated at night by a soft indigo glow.

The New Beetle is available in a 2.0 manual or automatic, 1.8 Turbo manual and in the 2.0 manual New Beetle Cabriolet.
Performance
A 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed automatic. The wind rushing through your hair, or cockpit-like focus. Whichever New Beetle you choose to drive, a host of impressive performance features are sure to put a smile on your face.
The advanced fuel injected 2-litre OHC delivers 85 kW at 5400 rpm, while the 1.8 litre Turbo's wide torque band provides strong mid-range performance and loads of power on demand.
Front suspension utilises a MacPherson strut design with stabiliser bar and coil spring struts. In the rear there's an independent torsion beam axle with sway bar and trailing arms. Rack and pinion steering is assisted, while a sophisticated brake system is attached to alloy wheels. Put all these attributes together, and you have a drive that is thoroughbred Volkswagen. It's the stuff icons are made of.

Safety
The New Beetle may evoke more emotions than any other car on the road, but when it comes to safety – it's incredibly rational. Apart from standard safety systems, you'll find a host of extra features that make the New Beetle as safe as can be.
As you'd expect from Volkswagen, the New Beetle Cabriolet is one of the safest open-topped vehicles, with innovative roll-over and crash sensors that determine the possible risk of the car rolling over. Two supporting profiles shoot up within a quarter of a second, securing the passenger compartment together with a reinforced windscreen frame. This protection system is able to absorb significantly higher impact forces than any other similar system currently available.
And when it comes to your security, the New Beetle employs the most cutting edge technology – particularly in the New Beetle Cabriolet where sensors monitor the passenger compartment whether the top is opened or closed.
- ABS (Anti-lock Brake System)
- ESP (Electronic Stability Programme)
- Traction control
- Electronic Differential Lock
- Driver and passenger airbags, including side airbags
- Pretensioning seat-belts
- Collapsible steering-column
- Cushioned surfaces throughout
